The following is an example of a custom application. A doctor walks into a hospital and syncs his PDA to the Hospital database. His patients from the current census along with current status information are downloaded into his PDA. As the doctor makes his rounds, he checks the current information and dictates the result of his findings into the patient record as he concludes each visit. As he leaves the hospital, he syncs back to the hospital database. The transcribed records are automatically sent to the transcriptionist for processing.

The doctor then goes to his office. His first step is to sync his PDA to the office computer. It downloads his office schedule for the afternoon. He pulls up the first patient along with historical information about the patient. As he concludes the visit he dictates the results. The doctor receives the data that he deems important, as his programs have been customized for him.
